When beginning a new music program, there are many things to consider. At Springfield Music, our rental programs are designed to make renting an instrument easy for you to help your student musician succeed.
Should I rent or buy?
Are you confused about which choice would be best? Consider this:
- Buying an instrument upfront can reduce the total cost of the instrument, but that savings quickly can be lost if your child decides to switch to another instrument or drops out of band.
- Renting an instrument from Springfield Music lets you take advantage of our repair and replacement insurance coverage, which limits your costs for all maintenance, repairs, theft or loss.
- For many families, low monthly payments are easier on the monthly budget than upfront purchasing.
Do I need a new or used instrument?
The choice comes down to two things: Your family's budget, and your child’s desire. If your student really wants a new, shiny instrument, and your family can afford it, that is the route we recommend. When deciding between new and used remember:
- All of Springfield Music’s used instruments are guaranteed to be quality instruments ready to perform. They are backed by Springfield Music’s fully-trained, state-of-the-art repair shop.
- Many of our used instruments are ‘like-new’ and will not be considerably different from a new instrument.
- Children who have a say in the new or used decision will have more ownership of the instrument and will be more motivated to practice and succeed.
What is the length of the contract?
Since our program is not an interest-laden, rent-to-own contract, there is no specified contract length. Springfield Music offers a flexible rental program with multiple purchase options.
- The first 18 rental payments (12 payments for percussion instruments) go toward the purchase of the instrument you are renting.
- There is no mandatory purchase of the instrument. You may continue to rent as long as you wish.
- You may transfer your payments to any other band instrument that is the same price or more without any penalty or fees.
- Rentals are always month-to-month. Because there is no contract length, there is no penalty for early returns or cancellation of the rental agreement.
What if my child changes his/her mind, changes instruments or quits?
With our rental program:
- There is no penalty or additional fees for changing instruments during the school year.
- All payments already made will apply to the new instrument up to the 18 month maximum.
- Since Springfield Music has no minimum contract length, the instrument can be returned at any time without penalty.
What happens if the instrument breaks or is lost or stolen?
When you have our repair and replacement insurance, it’s covered!
- When you have our repair insurance and you are current on your payments, any maintenance or accidental damage is covered. (Our policy does not cover neglect or abuse.)
- With our replacement insurance and your current payments, your child’s lost or stolen instrument will be replaced with a like instrument (or the contract terminated), as long as you submit to us a copy of your police report.
